Oom Yung Doe - 8 Martial Arts

Kirkland * Redmond

Conditioning Program

Brendon B - Adult student

...when I went into practice today, I noticed a few things that really shocked me.

First, unlike usual, I did not need a 10-15 minute warm up before I felt like I could begin to move correctly.  Despite the fact that it had been 4 days since my last practice, my first few kicks snapped from my hip so strong and high that I thought I was going to fall over backwards.

The next shock was when I reached down to do some stretching.  Despite my years of practice, I have a problem with my mid body flexibility, and normally, when I get to school, I can stretch down somewhere halfway between my knees and my toes.  Once I'm warmed up, I can usually reach my toes.  But today, still not warmed up at all, I reached right down, past my toes, until my fingers were entirely under my foot!  Without the slightest trace of a bend in my knee!  And it actually felt good!  Never in my life have I done that before today.

Kids and Teens Program

Maggie T - 13 years old

When I first joined Oom Yung Doe, my goal was to be healthier and physically stronger. I didn’t particularly aim for a certain rank or title but as time passed and I started to understand more, I noticed the change in myself both mentally and physically.  Mentally, gaining confidence will help a great deal, not only in Oom Yung Doe but in other aspects of life as well.

For me, determination is setting your mind to achieve a goal and having the will power to meet that goal.  With the characteristic of determination, I feel that anything could be possible. One principle always ties in with another, so with determination to reach a goal, comes confidence to stand behind what you believe in.

I feel that all that I have gone through makes me a better person and that is what Moo Doe is to me - to better yourself.

OYD Junior's Demostration Team

Jessica T

Before joining the OYD demonstration team, I was only narrow-mindedly working towards my own health and benefit.   However, by demonstrating for others, I now see that it is so much more than that. I demonstrate and train not only to improve my physical and mental capabilities but also to show others what they too are capable of doing.

My training has proved to others, and perhaps more importantly to myself, that determination and desire can get you in places you’ve never even dreamed of reaching. I have seen the improvements in my life, both physically and mentally, since I started training and I believe that it would be beneficial to each individual and society as a whole if they were taught what I was. I believe that each movement that is taught and learned is kept alive and personalized for each person to grow and improve their own lives.

We have a 6 year old Autistic boy who has a diagnosis of PDD-NOS. He started the Autism Program with instructor Andrew about 5 weeks back. I have seen a lot of changes in him since then:

1)     He has become more alert. He notices what people are doing around him and talking about much more than before. Even inschool, Ishan is doing a lot better as he is more present in terms of his attention.

2)     He has become a lot more confident about himself and thattranslates into him being more willing to try out new things, and moreconfident in talking and playing with his friends.

3)     A lot of subtle changes in his gross motor skills, he learned how to jump rope as he can jump with two feet now, he learned balance on the scooter, he is able to hop on one foot so now he wants to play hopscotch, he runs less awkwardly etc

4)     His reaction time is faster as he practices dodge, duck and other exercises with his Instructor.

5)     His general mood also stays better as he loves to go for his sessions and loves the physical exercises and challenges his Instructor tailors for him.

We are very happy with the progress our son has been making and will totally recommend this training for all kids especially kids who have special needs.
